Recent performances
Duran Duran's recent performances at the Concert for Diana and Live Earth were great, I thought. What did you think?
Also, they were the only band two play at both of those events. Awesome!

News about the new album
At their June 17 concert in New York City, Duran Duran premiered the recordings of several new songs. I think they sound really cool - including the collaboration with Justin Timberlake, "Nite Runner." This might be the first single.
The band announced that the title of the new album will be "Red Carpet Massacre" and that, as of right now, they're looking at an October release.
If you've heard some of the new tracks, what do you think? Post your thoughts in a comment.
For more info, go to http://www.duranduran.com/.

Nick talks about "Instant Karma"
Here are a couple videos of Nick Rhodes discussing Duran Duran's cover of John Lennon's song "Instant Karma," as well as Amnesty International. By the way, DD's version of "Instant Karma" is available on iTunes (it was, sadly, not included on the CD; what a shame).

No more TTP
Duran Duran bassist John Taylor's official solo website, Trust the Process (trustheprocess.com / johntayloronline.com), has been taken down. There will be a new section on the official Duran Duran site, www.duranduran.com, called JT's Vault, which will contain some of the archived information from John's site.

The Devils
So we (the fans) are all anxiously awaiting the next Duran Duran album. But in the meantime, I thought it would be a good time to mention The Devils.
For those who don't know, The Devils were a side project between Nick Rhodes and singer/guitarist Stephen Duffy. They released one album, "Dark Circles," in 2002. It's a phenomenal album, hearkening back to the days of Duran Duran's genesis. In fact, the project came about because Duffy (who was a singer in Duran Duran before Simon LeBon came on board) discovered some old tapes from his DD days, and he and Nick decided to revisit some of the old songs, as well as work on some new ones.
There is an unofficial Devils profile at MySpace, if you're interested in listening to some of their songs:

You can buy their album, "Dark Circles," from Amazon.com here:

1997 interview with Nick
http://www.lizardkingduran.com/nick.html
(posted on the Lizard King Duran fan site, which is one of the best out there.)
I love reading interviews with the band, old or new, and I find that much of the time Nick gives the most interesting interviews. The one above is no exception.
It's a little bit saddening to read that interview, seeing Nick's enthusiasm over the Medazzaland album, considering the album ended up not doing very well and was never even released in the UK. But I consider Medazzaland a landmark Duran Duran album, and Nick's thoughts on it at the time still ring true to me. Just because an album isn't a commercial success doesn't mean it's not a great work of art.

Duran Duran @ Live Earth
It was confirmed this week that Duran Duran will perform at the London (Wembley Stadium) concert as part of Live Earth on July 7, 2007 (07/07/07). While it was announced some time ago that the band would be participating, this is the first confirmation of which location they're going to play. For ticket information, see duranduran.com.

Collaborating with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake
It's old news now, of course, but Duran Duran's next album is supposed to include three songs produced by Timbaland, one of which features guest vocals by Justin Timberlake.
It looks like the release time frame mentioned in this article probably won't end up being correct, but this Billboard story has some good background:
